How much does the first time having sex hurt?

Okay im a virgin and planning to have sex with my boyfriend. I hear for some people it hurts, and for others first time sex dosnt hurt that much or at all. What is the pain like? and is it just pain or discomfort? And wht can i do to ensure i suffer as little pain as possible? The idea of it hurting dosnt put me off, my pain threshold is pretty high if im honest. but i like to be prepared XD

On a scale from 1 to 10, for me it was about 6. And after the first time, it still hurt about four times after that. And its not like I was dry down there or anything. Just relax and maybe use some lube to make it easier for intercourse.
